Is There Such A Thing As “After Christmas” Shopping?

by David Bakke

Well, when it comes right down to it, the answer is, believe it or not, a resounding “yes”.  As this holiday shopping season winds down, I’m sure that just about all of us have just about had it with shopping. The long lines, looking for particular gifts, and dealing with all of the stress can make even the best of us ready for a break.  Probably the last thing on most everyone’s mind after Christmas is to do anymore shopping.  Well, hopefully during this holiday season you’ve found a way to get the best deals on things. Hopefully, you’ve learned the value of online shopping. And most importantly, we hope that you were aware of your favorite retailers return policies, both good and bad. But on top of all of that, keep in mind that some post-Christmas shopping can save you lots of money as well.

There are quite a few items that you can pick up in the days right after Christmas at significant discounts that you might want to look into. I’ve taken the time to outline these below.

Christmas Decorations

While you’re taking your Christmas decorations down, you can obviously tell what you’re going to need for the following year. Take a quick inventory of broken Christmas tree decorations and especially broken Christmas lights. Keep in mind that all of these items will be tremendously discounted in the days following Christmas.

Wrapping Paper

This, to me, is an on-brainer. At this point in time, you are probably out of wrapping paper. Obviously, you’re going to need more for next Christmas. Why not go ahead and buy it now? It’s not that expensive to begin with, and it’s not like it’s going to break your already stretched budget. Also, this is an item that is incredibly discounted in the days following Christmas. I’ve seen it as much as 90% off!  Pick it up now—and save yourself some money for next year’s holiday shopping.

Next Year’s Gifts?

Look, I know this is going to be a tough one, but let me give you an example if you have children. Obviously, you can kind of gauge the type of toy that will be attractive to them for next year.  If they’re three now, then next year, they’re going to like toys designed for four year-olds. Toys are another item that are sold at significant discounts directly after Christmas. You should be able to pick up a few quick deals that you can tuck away in the closet and have them ready to go for next Christmas.

Clothes

Same thing again, especially for kids. If you child wears a 3T this year, there’s a good chance that he/she is going to be in a 4-5T for next year. Chances are that right after the holidays you’re going to be able to find a discount on something.

Final Thought

I know that the holiday shopping season is taxing and stressful for everyone. However, the odds are that after Charismas, you’re going to have to visit a retailer or two for a return. While you’re there, why not take advantage of a tip or two that I’ve mentioned above to save yourself some money in the coming holiday season.

As always, you’re comments are appreciated below.
